HEAD OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, LICENSING AND ALLIANCE MANAGEMENT

Alex has over 20 years’ business development and intellectual property commercialisation experience spanning research, start-up and multi-national company settings.  

He has a proven track-record across the entire life cycle of intellectual property commercialisation and management: from protecting new inventions, including as a named inventor on 14 PCT patent applications, through to commercial licensing and high-stakes, multi-party patent litigation for established products. 

Alex has successfully led and closed over 50 high-value commercial transactions with partners in North America, Europe and Asia including clinical-stage asset licenses, strategic alliances, acquisitions, divestments, clinical and commercial supply agreements and royalty buy-outs.   

At FTSE-listed Oxford BioMedica PLC, Alex was Senior Director, Transactions and Licensing where he led complex platform out-licensing deals for cGMP viral vector technologies for cell and gene therapies including with Boehringer Ingelheim and several clinical-stage biotechnology companies. 

At GE Healthcare, Alex was Licensing Director where he led cross-functional and cross-national teams across GE’s global BioPharma business to acquire new products and enabling-technologies.  Alex has also held senior roles at Oxford University Innovation and as a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Cambridge.

He also co-founded a new company to commercialise IP arising from his PhD studies including securing venture finance from an international consortium of investors and raising significant non-dilutive funding.  

Alex holds an MBA with Distinction from Warwick Business School and a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Cambridge.
